What is an Employee Assistance Program?

An Employee Assistance Program is a contract between an employer and Southern Oregon Employee Assistance Program, Inc. (SOEAP) to provide help for you and your family. The Employee Assistance Program provides a confidential resource outside the workplace that assists you and your immediate family members with problems before job performance is affected.

Why an Employee Assistance Program?

Personal problems are a part of everyone's life. Some of these problems become too big to be solved alone and can interfere with job performance. Asking for help can be the first step toward resolving a problem and a positive way to overcome a negative situation. Job security or promotional opportunities are not jeopardized by seeking counseling. Your employer encourages you to maintain your physical and emotional health.

Who Can Use the EAP?

All employees and their immediate family members are eligible to utilize the Employee Assistance Program.

What Types of Problems are addressed?

  • Alcohol/drug problems
  • Marital conflicts
  • Family problems
  • Personal/emotional issues
  • Stress Management
  • Financial problems
  • Elder care
  • Literacy concerns
  • Job/career challenges
  • Work concerns and related problems
  • Other health problems

Is it Confidential?

Contact with the EAP is confidential. When you call the counselor, only you and the counselor know what is discussed, unless you choose otherwise.

What Does the EAP Cost?

Employee Assistance Program services are free to all employees and their immediate family members.

Management Referal

Sometimes, your supervisor will ask you to make an appointment to see an SOEAP counselor. This would be a management referral as compared to self-referral. Either way, the information you share with a counselor is confidential unless you decide otherwise.

Mandatory Referral

Sometimes, the supervisor will require you to seek counseling with one of the SOEAP counselors. Sometimes, this is part of a disciplinary procedure. At other times, your supervisor will require that you make appointmens with an SOEAP couselor because, for some reason, your supervisor is very worried about you, due to something they have seen at work. In the event you are referred in this way, you will be asked to sign two authorizations for release of information from your counseling sessions. Your supervisor or counselor will assist you in understanding these authorization for the release of information. In addition, you will receive a letter explaing the mandatory referral process. This letter is available on this website.
